Jack on the Move
by: David Reynolds/Flat-Broke Films.Ltd, UK

We have heard that JC after leaving Tregonwell moved to many properties around Lynton & Lynmouth so we are not surprised about your claims. Each property could have its own Plaque, but we are only interested in The Captain's House because of it being the home of JC at the time of the 1899 lifeboat rescue.

Crocombe family
by: Anonymous

I think you had better contact Jack Crocombes family on the matter of where Jack lived.
He certainly did own Tregonwell, but he also owned Oakleigh, Heatherville and others. All these peoperties hold mortgage deeds. However, the family have proof of Jack Crocombe living in Oakleigh now Lorna Doone House.
There are a number of anomalies in the whole story of the Crocombes and Burgess family.
Please contact the family for more info

Jack Crocombe
by: John Richards

Yesterday I identified myself as the great-grandson of Jack Crocombe and you replied asking me to contact you direct. This I have been unable to do as the address was not recognised

There is one small point I would comment on, regarding the home of Jack Crocombe, I think you are of the opinion that he lived in the house formerly known as Tregonwell. He did in fact live in a house formerly called Oakleigh, now called Lorna Doone House owned by Mr Adrian Hobbs. I always understood that this is where my grandmother Violet, her sisters Daisy and May and their brother Francis ( who died very young ) grew up and was the family home.

I would hate you to put your blue plate on the wrong house. Jack Crocombe did in fact own the garden beside the river in front of Tregonwell.

Hope this is of some help, John Richards

My Great Grandfather
by: John Richards

I am the Great Grandson of Jack Crocombe, my grandmother Violet being his daughter. I grew up in Lynton and spent a lot of my early years in her company as she was vertually bedridden for the latter part of her life.

I remember sitting on her bed listening to the stories she told me of her father and her childhood growing up in Oakleigh only a couple of houses from the house she died in.

One story I remember was how the local fishermen would come to the house to tell her father that his geese had gone to sea and he would go out in his boat to bring them back.

I too have a picture of the Forrest Hall it is the one given to my great grandfather by the owners after the rescue. This has now been handed down to me.

Bring Back the Bell
by: David Reynolds/FBF Ltd

I concur with the "Parkers of Lynmouth" that the Forrest Hall ship's Bell should really be returned back to the people of Lynmouth as a tribute to their famous heroic CAPTAIN JACK CROCOMBE and his lifeboat crew.
Flat-Broke Films Ltd have been carrying out extensive enquiries about the 1909 Forrest Hall ship wreck on Ninety Mile Beach, North Island, New Zealand, and the tribunal that followed. They intend producing a Docu/Drama to be called "The Wreck of the Forrest Hall" once their LOUISA 1899 historical lifeboat rescue adventure feature film is produced. FBF would like to place on record the outstanding help and encouragement from the FAR NORTH REGIONAL MUSEUM in Kaitaia with this project.

THE CAPTAIN'S HOUSE
by: Clifford and Josie Parker & Family.

Here in Lynmouth after all these years we're so excited at the prospect of the "Forrest Hall" ship rescue being turned into a distinguested movie.
We would like to invite you all in New Zealand for your thoughts about the magnificient Captain Jack Crocombe saving the lives of the ill fitted Forrest Hall ship.
Please can we bring the ship's bell back to Lynmouth where it truly deserveds to be,after all the hard work Capatain Crocombe and the men of Lynmouth did for its rescue.
Isn't it strange that the beautifull Forrest Hall ship was doomed from the beginning was it the captain or the crew. What is your opinion.Any info or photos please send us.

Forrest Hall Photo
by: David Reynolds

How very interesting Bruce. Would it be possible to have a copy of your photo? What I'm really looking for is a photo of what the ship (wreck) looks like now and its actual location off Ninety Mile Beach. South Australia library sent me a photo showing the FH stuck on the sandbank back in 1909 - I wonder if you have the same photo? If you look on our website www.flat-brokefilms.co.uk under Overland Launch you can see the ship there, best wishes David Reynolds/Flat-Brokefilms

Forrest Hall
by: Bruce Rule

My Grand father, Reg Rule had a photo of the Forrest Hall on his wall for as long as I can remember. It has now been passed down to me, last year I was in Kaitaia for my grandmothers funeral and the mast believed to be from the ship was across the road from my uncles place in a yard. I was lucky enough to go and see it, as the photo always meant a lot to me, it was great to actually touch the mast from this ship.
Anyway thats about it, good luck with the film.
Regards Bruce Rule
