David Reynolds/Flat-Broke Films, UK

by David
(Cheltenham, UK)

I am carrying out research for a new feature film based upon the clipper Forrest Hall which ran aground in calm seas back in 1909, on Ninety Mile beach, about 25 miles south of Cape Maria Van Dieman. Ironically this ship and crew were saved in a violent storm in the Bristol Channel near Porlock, Somerset, UK in 1898. Because of bad weather, the local lifeboat could not be launched at Lynmouth harbour and was then towed overnight by many horses on a carriage 15 miles overland in stormy conditions to Porlock Weir harbour where in the morning despite being tired, the crew launched the lifeboat and saved the crew and Forrest Hall from the rocks.
If anyone has information or photos of the location of the Forrest Hall I'd be pleased to hear from them. Contact flat-brokefilms@fsmail.net and also visit our website www.flat-brokefilms.co.uk
Thanks David Reynolds
